Some of my best childhood memories are of spending time around the dinner table with family. Sunday evenings in particular because it was the one night my father was not working and we were all together for dinner. We would spend hours literally...catching up, laughing, joking around and sharing stories about our week. For more than a decade, I worked with a delightful crew at Tracy Porter and this is how I became inspired to set a beautiful table-her gorgeous dinnerware makes it easy! It is a ritual that is still with me and I believe always will be. The combination of delicious food, good company, interesting conversation, lots of humor and a beautiful setting is one of life's treasures. Don't be surprised if you arrive at Mi Casa Su Casa and find the table set...sometimes I just have to indulge!

For years I had collected wall art not recognizing that a common theme wove them together. One day I realized that my unconscious collection often featured women as a central theme. I particularly love this framed painting of a pink dress by lauren paradise. Writing about collecting art, reminds me of my first auction experience, as the story goes... I was making my first bid on what I thought was a very lovely wall hanging. Being a novice, I was pretty excited to learn that I took the bid...that is until I found out that it was actually a PAIR of lovely wall hangings that I was purchasing at double the price. Oh well... Live and Learn!

This room and its delightful and eclectic environment offer a wonderful place to retreat. Tuck away in a cozy mix of calico patterns and vintage wallpaper. This unique bed was painted by hand with a menagerie motif and designed by Tracy Porter. For me, this room has been a haven to journal a bit. I have enjoyed taking a moment here to write a note by hand. If you left yours at home, not to worry...simply add to the journals you find in here. Or take a moment at the writing desk with stationery, pen and old-fashioned ink we have provided. Go on...remember what it's like to indulge in some snail mail!

hallway installation design by heather installation hung by Sandra Hansen I had the privilege of mentoring heather from ages 13-16. She was a budding artist already and had a true flair for layout. Heather came up with this two-dimensional idea at age 14. We just loved it!

I thank my parents for being the kind of people who always encouraged us to do what we loved for a living. So when I decided as a junior in high school that I wanted to pursue a career in the arts and study fashion design their support was unwavering. I went into the fashion industry as a fashion stylist, from there became an agent representing models, a prop stylist, producer of photo shoots, store display and later added writer to my list of creative pursuits. "Whatever you decide to do, make it something you love because you will spend more of your waking hours doing that than anything else" these words remain true straight from my father's lips. Didn't I tell you he was wise? My brother is an excellent craftsman and cabinetmaker. Peter has talent that knows no bounds. And makes his Mama and family truly proud!

Camp is for Kids! Mi Casa Su Casa Retreat has been dubbed "Camp" by the kids and adults in our family. "The Camp Kids" in our family gather here to watch movies and have their snacks. It's the smallest bedroom in the house with the 2 smallest beds and they think it's the greatest! Maybe because it's a space they can call their own!
