From the looks of these photos of memorable family vacations, I was destined for retreat life and for a love of hats at a very young age. That's me (and plastic slipcovers!) as a young girl in our family's Chicago apartment. Dad, who is a very wise man says, "You can take the kid out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the kid." For me, a love for both city and country was born! My Italian Mother jokes, "tell them you are part Italian...this will explain the plastic slipcovers!" :) In the center, a much more recent photo after a long and lovely day of gardening at "Camp House". *Sandra (on left) and I smile for a neighbor's camera. *All in the Family: Sandra Hansen is responsible for many of the photographs on this site. She is more than a sister to me, an endless, generous supporter of the retreat, fabulous hair stylist, nanny to 4 VERY LUCKY boys, a devoted and loyal friend. A former resident of the retreat, Sandra now resides in the delightful town of Ripon, WI in a pretty yellow house with her darling husband and best friend, Gary. Ok that's me on the lower right. In one of my favorite places of all time...New York City. Behind me are some of the very fun photo shoots I have worked on as a freelance Writer, Stylist or Producer. On each of these projects I have been very fortunate to work with very intriguing, super-talented and highly creative folks from different parts of the world. Each more interesting than the next. It's a well-traveled group which keeps things inspired and fresh...often these folks have just come from photo assignments with very well known teams such as Domino, J.Crew, Pottery Barn, Ralph Lauren, Martha Stewart, & Vogue. And although it's always nice to come home...I do love the travel!
Deborah Hernandez is the former Vice President of Corporate Development for Tracy Porter Inc. In addition to her freelance projects, her career background also includes working with other dynamic companies such as Lands' End Catalog, The Limited Corporation, Aveda, and Arlene Wilson Model Management.
Mi Casa Su Casa Retreat is how she currently and happily spends the majority of her time. Living life to the fullest in fun, creative, and healthy pursuits with family and friends is how she enjoys her personal time. It is a dream come true for Deb to have all who stay at the retreat relax from the hectic pace of everyday life while helping children in need.
When she's not at the retreat you may find her traveling, riding a horse, playing in the garden, hiking the trails or with her nose in a book. Her concept for the retreat developed following her volunteer work with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization and other local youth charities. Inspired by her love of all the amazing children in her life and the generous spirited endeavors of incredible individuals interested in making a difference such as Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy, Jamie Gertz's Painted Turtle Camp, Newman's Own, Ben & Jerry's, Smith and Hawken, Tom's of Maine and so many others.
